Matthew Thompson is a sculptor from East Cork, who grew up surrounded by art and sculpture, being the son of the well known sculptor Ken Thompson. Matthew trained with Ken from a young age and then set up his own workshop where he works on both private and public commissions as well as beautiful hand cut headstones. His work is in many private collections in Ireland and around the world.

Located in Market square in Youghal, this 5ft statue, carved from a single block of Kilkenny limestone was commissioned to commemorate the making of the 1959 film Moby Dick in Youghal by John Huston and staring Gregory Peck. It was unveiled in August 2020.
